Scott Wardlaw
President
“Like many other Southern Californians, l had been going to Christmas Tree Lane for many years to see the colorful lighting display, but l only really became involved in volunteering when my wife and l began to bring our high school son to work here to fulfill his school’s community service requirements. Everyone was so warm and welcoming that it made me want to stay and become more involved.”
Derek Nowak
1st Vice President, Logistics
I joined Christmas Tree Lane because it’s been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I started volunteering back when I was in elementary school, and from that very first year, I knew I wanted to help keep this tradition alive. Over the years I’ve done just about everything—from climbing trees to hang lights to helping organize events—and eventually I was honored to serve as the youngest Vice President of the organization.
Sean Meek
2nd Vice President, Membership
“I have been going to Christmas Tree Lane for most of my adult life. It has always brought joy during the holidays to drive up and down the street seeing all the beautiful lights. But it wasn’t until a few years ago, when I moved into the neighborhood, that I realized all that hard work was done by volunteers. I knew instantly that I wanted to be apart of it and help out in whatever way I can. It’s been a great honor to be apart of Christmas Tree Lane and work with all the amazing volunteers who enjoy lighting up the lane, and lighting up people lives.”
Stephanie Rodriguez
Treasurer
With 26 years of residency in Temple City, I have long been connected to the communities that make the San Gabriel Valley feel like home. My ties to Altadena began through personal business visits, but grew much deeper following the surreal and devastating event that impacted the city. When I was asked to step into the role of treasurer, I saw it as an opportunity to give back and support a community that had shown such resilience.
I bring experience as a treasurer for several volunteer organizations, a role I’ve always genuinely enjoyed. Serving Altadena in this capacity allows me to combine my skills with my commitment to helping the community move forward.
Jonathan Arevalo
Secretary
For me, Christmas Tree Lane has always been a family tradition. Growing up, we would visit the Balian Mansion and then make our way to the Lane, taking in all the lights and excitement. I remember going to the lighting ceremony back when it was a small gathering, and it’s been amazing to watch it grow into the incredible community event it is today.
This has always been such a special part of my life, and I’m grateful to now be part of the board, helping this tradition continue for future generations. It truly is a wonderful event, and I’m proud to play a role in keeping the magic alive.
Len Schaustal
Sponsorship Director
“I lived in Altadena in the mid 1990’s, spending much of my time building my career and business. When I moved to a neighboring city – it hit me… I BELONGED in Altadena. It is my home – The people, the diversity, the trees and mountains, and the small town feel all in a greater metropolitan area of many millions. Happy to be ‘home’, I am excited to be part of this amazing group of volunteers that give so much to the community around them with nothing expected in return. From working on the Lane, to helping to raise awareness and funds for much needed care and maintenance of this historic treasure, I am again, home, and honored to be part of this organization.”
Mikayla Arevalo
Communications Director & Volunteer Coordinator
I’ve been coming to Christmas Tree Lane for as long as I can remember, and this cherished event holds a truly special place in my heart. For me, it’s the way I begin the holiday season—a tradition that brings warmth, joy, and a sense of togetherness year after year.
Altadena is my community, and I’m committed to serving it in any way I can. Supporting Christmas Tree Lane is one of the ways I give back, because I love this event and am dedicated to ensuring it continues for everyone in our community to enjoy.
Mary Landau
Historian Director
“Altadena has been my home for more than 47 years. I love this quiet community with its fascinating people, great neighbors, and stately deodars. What a wonderful place to have raised my children! I joined the CTLA Board about 14 years ago. I joined, to give back just a bit of the joy that it had brought me. Altadena History is so interesting that I decided to learn more about its rich history, and how the Lane came to be. I am now the Lane Historian, and in charge of the Community Booths at the Winter Arts and Craft Festival. Come say hello!”
Steve Elliot
Board Director
“I enjoy the friendships I have made in my 10+ years of participating in CTLA. The fun of working in the fresh outdoors amongst the beautiful trees and the camaraderie that results from accomplishing a worthwhile and environmentally beneficial community effort, all make CTLA an enjoyable weekend and year-long activity.”
Rob Caves
Board Director
Rob has been a Christmas Tree Lane resident for almost twenty years and became involved in the lane volunteering to help put up and take down the lights. He joined the board in 2021 to get involved with the centennial preparations. He also runs the model train club on Christmas Tree Lane that is open to the public on weekends in December. When not helping on the lane or playing with trains, Rob runs a 3D printing business and enjoys the local mountains and social time with friends.
Linda Diaz
Board Member
“For years, I would drive by that sign on the corner of Santa Rosa and Woodbury inviting volunteers to help decorate Christmas Tree Lane. Oh, next year, I would say. Well, it has now been 4 years that I have volunteered and I have enjoyed every minute, so much so that I am now serving on the Christmas Tree Lane Board. As someone born and raised in Altadena, I am very proud to be able to contribute to our community.”
Deanna Thomas
Merchandise Director
This is my first year joining the Christmas Tree Lane Board, and I’m excited to be part of such a special tradition. I deeply believe in the power of community and the joy that comes from giving back. Being part of such a cherished holiday tradition has been truly magical, and I wanted to help preserve and enhance that spirit for others. The positive influence this event has on both the community and the families it brings together is inspiring, and I’m honored to contribute to creating lasting memories for all who participate.
