Lighting Season

The lights on Christmas Tree Lane are turned on in early December and remain lit through approximately the first week of January. The best time to visit is after dark, when the trees are aglow and the street takes on its full holiday magic.

Note: Even when the lights are off, the beautiful deodar trees and commemorative historic landmark plaque can be enjoyed year-round.

Driving or Walking?

Christmas Tree Lane is a residential street without sidewalks, and the Lane is primarily designed to be enjoyed by car during the lighting season.

If Driving:

Enter Santa Rosa Ave. from Woodbury Ave. and drive north toward Altadena Dr.

Drive slowly and be prepared for traffic during peak evenings and weekends.

Turn on your hazard lights to signal you’re enjoying the lights and not in a rush.

Please don’t stop or park in the middle of the Lane.

If Walking:

Be extra cautious — there are no sidewalks, and visibility is low at night.

Walk single file along the shoulder and wear light or reflective clothing.

Keep a close eye on children and pets.

Parking Information

There is limited street parking available on nearby residential roads. We kindly ask visitors not to block driveways or park directly on Christmas Tree Lane itself.

Accessibility & Safety Notes

There are no food vendors or facilities along Christmas Tree Lane outside of special events. Public restrooms are available at the Altadena Main Library during open hours.

The street has no sidewalks and minimal lighting apart from the holiday display.

If walking, please use caution, especially at night — the Lane is narrow, unlit, and actively used by cars.

Be aware of the roadside drainage ditches that run alongside parts of the Lane. These can be difficult to see at night and may cause hazards.

Wear reflective or light-colored clothing, and keep children and pets close.

Respecting Our Neighbors

Christmas Tree Lane is not a commercial venue — it’s a neighborhood street. The homes along the Lane are private residences, and we ask all visitors to be mindful of the people who live there year-round.

Please keep noise to a minimum.

Do not litter or block driveways.

Refrain from using flash photography pointed at homes.

Let’s keep this tradition joyful for both visitors and residents alike!
